Miss Wendolynn Marisol Montoya and Mr. James Gilbert Rodriguez were united in Holy Matrimony on Saturday, June 30, 2007 at seven o'clock in the evening at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Houston. The double-ring ceremony was officiated by Father Ronald Oakham, O. Carm. Scripture readings were given by Mrs. Annabell Hadley, cousin of the bride, and Mrs. Melissa Leake, cousin of the groom.
A reception and dinner followed in the Legends Ballroom of the InterContinental Houston with many of their family and friends in attendance. On the eve of the wedding, the groom's parents hosted a rehearsal dinner at The State Grille.
The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joe and Alba Montoya of Houston. She is the granddaughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Ruben and Olivia Guerra of Camargo, Mexico and the late Mr. and Mrs. Abelino and Nena Montoya of Kingsville, Texas. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert and Mary Ruth Rodriguez of Houston. He is the grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. Johnny and Carmen Gutierrez and the late Mr. and Mrs. Leonor and Celia Rodriguez, both of Houston.
Given in marriage by her parents, the bride wore a gown designed by La Sposa. The diamond white silk dupioni gown featured a sweetheart neckline on a ruched bodice and was enhanced by custom designed delicate net straps with appliqué. The fitted gown had a modified mermaid silhouette sweeping to a chapel-length train. Delicate accents of beaded lace appliqué adorned the gown. Her gown was complemented by a diamond white cathedrallength illusion veil appliquéd with crystal micro-dots. She carried a round bouquet of white cymbidium orchids accented with a base of green dendrobium orchids.
Miss Candice Peña of Houston served as Maid of Honor and Mrs. JoAnn Alanis of Houston served as Matron of Honor. Miss Heather De La Garza of Houston, Miss Felicia Escobar of Washington, D.C., Miss Vindia Fernandez of Los Angeles, California, Miss Elvia Shears Guerra of Camargo, Mexico, Miss Nancy Rosas of New York City, New York and Miss Annette Salinas of Laredo, Texas served as Bridesmaids. Miss Marissa Cortinas of Grand Prairie, Texas, Miss Lauren Garza of Houston and Miss Taylor Kelly of Corpus Christi, Texas served as Junior Bridesmaids. Miss Gabriella Gonzales of Corpus Christi, Texas served as the Flower Girl.
Mr. Andrew Rodriguez of Houston served his brother as Best Man. Groomsmen were Mr. Christopher Cortinas of Grand Prairie, Texas, Mr. Damon Flores of Brownsville, Texas, and Mr. Joe Alanis, Mr. Chris Brown, Mr. Giovanni Garibay, Mr. Joseph Montoya, and Mr. Aaron Villareal of Houston. Mr. Robert Isassi of Kingsville, Texas and Mr. Jose Soto of Houston served as Ushers. Mr. Aaron Cortinas of Grand Prairie, Texas served as Junior Groomsman and Mr. Joshua Isassi of San Antonio, Texas served as Ring Bearer.
Wendolynn is a graduate of Eisenhower High School in Houston. She received a Bachelor of Arts in History from Yale University, a Master in Public Policy from the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University, and a law degree from the University of Texas at Austin. Wendolynn is an attorney with the Houston based law firm of Vinson & Elkins LLP.
James is a graduate of Milby High School in Houston. He received a Bachelor of Business Administration in Marketing from the University of Houston. James is marketing director for Entech Civil Engineering and a candidate for Houston City Council, District I.
Following their honeymoon to Saint Martin and Saint Barths in the Caribbean, Mr. and Mrs. Rodriguez are at home in Houston.
